The ribbon cable is around 3 or 4 feet long...the cool part is the plug assemblies. You just slide the ribbon cable into the plug and press real hard and it snaps ....all the wires are connected! You don't have to solder or crimp each one.

So, you just buy one ribbon cable and cut it into two pieces(use two ribbon cables if you need extreme length)...separate the wires on one end and bare them up...hook them to your encoder...snap one conector onto the other end of the ribbon....then separate and bare the wires on one side of the other cable....wire up your controls...then snap the other gender plug to that cable.

So, if you use a male plug on your encoder...you just use a female plug on each control panel and you have an easy swap.
