As Tehrasha said, carriage bolts are what you'll use. If you get them from your local hardware store, they will most likely be shiney silver. You can paint them if you'd like. However the shiney surface may be hard for paint to stay on.
I purchased some black ones from Bob Roberts. That way i didn't have to paint them.
