That information is important and very inobtrusive. Nicola himself posted a disapproving message about Tim's release of the altered source on the Retrogames board.
I assume that you know that P1 left then P1 right enteres the OK for first run of a game, then any key clears the info screen.
If nothing else I find that the "picture box" that delineates the screen size to be particularly useful.
Just my opinion...leave it in..
