It may be the JPEG encoding or just the lighting, but the base of the knob of the right seems to have some flat edges from grinding off the excess plastic. Also, the grooves on the side seem to be less smooth. Another thing that lead me to that conclusion is that since most casting materials experience some amount of shrinkage, that would tend to account for what seems to be slightly narrower ridges on the sides.

The knob on the right also seems to have a "hard" freshly cast plastic look to it, whereas the one on the left has more of a "worn-smooth" powder coat appearance.

But it's hard to tell from a small JPG and it's a good knock-off in any case :)

: Please be so kind as to point out the obvious flaws in the one you believe is not original. I'd love to hear your answer. Because my answer may surprise you. :)

: : : For those of you interested, I have posted 2 pictures of my Tempest replica knobs. Please wait a few for the pics to load since they are on Geocities - its kinda slow.

: : : Can you guess which one is the REAL Tempest knob and which is the replica? There are 2 pictures - both have a real tempest knob and a replica in it.

: : : One of the pics is here in the post. You can also select the link below to see the other picture.
