Maybe it would give that 80's authentic finger print greasy dirty been-there-too-long small convenience store type of effect though.
I remember playing some Karate Champ and Arkanoid machines in the front entrance doorway area of a low budget dept. store and I couldn't even see parts of the screen through the fogged up dirty bezel...
Come to think of it, that was the same location where an older kid (I was 12) was hogging Karate Champ and he showed me how to beat the opponent maybe 80% of the time by walking up to him, jumping over him by pushing left stick up and right stick down, then back kick him by pushing the 2 joysticks in towards each other...been doing that ever since, including in MAME now 14 years later...Those are the only moves I know, so when I get stuck if the moves don't work, I just press the joysticks in random directions until one of us goes down...one day I'll actually look up the proper moves!
That's how I play most street fighting type games too...just press stuff.
