With controller hacks you're connecting a hot and a ground at your switch, but you know that already. Well with keyboard hacks you're actually connecting two hots, so there is no common that you can use that way. That's why there are 8 wires. One possibility is that a few of the directions have a hot in common, that is true with my keyboard where left, down, and right all share the same circuit.

It would be awesome if there were a keyboard where all keys had a common ground, because you'd have 100+ connections, unfortunately that's not the case. In reality you can get maybe 20-30 without ghosting. Take apart a keyboard sometime and you'll know what I'm talking about.

: : Before I buy 360 joysticks, is there anyone here use it for thier MAME? If so, how did you connect the wires to lets say a keyboard Hack for the Up/DOwn/Left/Right. The keyboard wiring is 8 leads and the 360 direction leads are only 4. Can this be done? Share us your info if its done. Those clicking really becoming to be annoying.

: I use sidwewinder hack not keyboard hack. What are the 8 leads used on the keyboard?
: If its 4 for direction and 4 grounds than 360 will work fine cause i uses 1 common ground.
: Hope this helps.
