I just finished hooking up my contols to a KE24 without soldering. Xiaou2 is right, there's nothing like a good soldered connection. But it can be tricky/messy for the uninitiated.
Crimping proved quick and easy. I *strongly* recommend spending $6.00 on a crimper/wirecutter/stripper tool at Radio Shack. You'll achieve a much stronger "crimp" than trying to use a pair of pliers.
