I have a fixed frequency monitor (acually dual sync) and am very pleased with the results. It is an Intergraph MDSP1260A 20" monitor and has one of those 13w3 connectors that you mention. It supports the following maximum resolutions:

InterVue-20
Mode Vert. refresh Horiz. refresh Pixel Clock
640x480 154Hz 81kHz 65MHz
800x600 126Hz 81kHz 81MHz
1024x768 99Hz 81kHz 104MHz
1280x1024 76Hz 81kHz 130MHz

(View table with a fixed font, since I'm sure it won't show up right)

It also supports a horizontal scan rate of 31.5kHz. I drive it with a Trident Blade 3D PCI and run AdvanceMAME on it in pure DOS. Couldn't be happier with the results.
