: I've never tried running a PC without a case like you are doing, but I have a lot of experience troubleshooting electrical problems. Please be careful working with electricity while you are troubleshooting this problem.
GOOD ADVICE : If you suspect the power supply, try disconnecting the power supply from all of your PC components (motherboard, drives, etc...). If the breaker still trips, then you probably have a bad power supply. Great idea! (guess I should have thought of that). : I'm confused by your comment about gounding the components together. Everything connected to the power supply is likely to already have a ground wire in the power supply connector (most power supplies that I have seen have a diagram on them). Sounds right -- I wasn't sure if being connected together by the metal case provided any additional "grounding" that was important. : You may want to look for components that look or smell burned. Nothing smells burned so far -- a really strange event. I have set the motherboard to boot-up at powerup, but it should be noted that it tripped the breakers without this setting. Thanks again!
I'll try it tonight!
