The ones in my Jap cab aren't Happ (at least, I think not, they don't look like anything in the Happ catalog). They have a plate on the bottom that can be moved around to make them 8-way, 4-way, 2-way vertical, or 2-way horizontal. Come to think of it, you might be able to force it to diagonal-only for Qbert, but I haven't tried that. I just wish the sticks weren't in such bad shape, because I have no clue where to get more. I also wish they were leaf switches, or at least used less "click-y" microswitches.

: Happ makes these (they're called the Universal Joystick). I ordered these for my cabinet, because I figured switching them would be easy. However, having to loosed 4 screws and turn the disk 45 degrees and tighten the screws again isn't much easier than flipping the actuators on the others...

: : I have been seeing a lot of posts about it lately, and I was wondering if any of you had considered investing in japanese style joysticks. All of them may not be created equal, but the sticks that came in my Tecmo cab are nothing short of genius. They are short, ball topped, smooth, and they have a dial on the bottom. You loosen a couple of screws and turn the dial to switch between 4 and 8 way. Considering the cab has a control panel that flips up, the whole prosses of switching takes 20 seconds at the most. Just thought I would put that out there for all those interested.
