Don't forget Asteroids (5). But in this case, it's not so much the number of buttons, but the layout. Having scads of buttons lets you map the ones you want WHERE you want. Makes a game like Asteroids much more convincing.

Also, with only 1 4-way and 1 8-way you'll be depriving yourself of one of the coolest retro experiences (in my opinion anyway); Robotron.

You'll need 2 8-ways for this gem, and there may be others with the same requirement.

: I'm trying to decide how many buttons to put on my control panel. I'm only interested in playing CLASSIC games (late 70's to mid-late 80's), so I wont be needing 6 buttons for Street Fighter, or Mortal Kombat, or Neo Geo stuff. As I thought about it more, I realized I need a LOT less buttons than I thought.

: I know, I know...you're gonna say, "Put on a lot of buttons and do it THIS way so you wont have to do it again later, you'll always have enough buttons!" Honestly...I JUST want CLASSIC games, and I don't have a large control panel to work with, and I want to fit one 8-way joystick, one 4-way joystick and a spinner.

: MOST of the CLASSIC games use only one button and not many use more than TWO. I'd like some input...if people can help me brainstorm : Name some CLASSIC games that use MORE than 2 buttons? I'm talking about buttons that are JUST for GAME PLAY (not start buttons etc). Don't forget the Vector games...many of those used mostly buttons instead of joysticks I think.

: Defender (5), Asteroids (5), Bank Panic (3), Double Dragon (3), Golden Axe (3), Track & Field (3), Mouse Trap (4), Missle Command (3)

: Can anyone think of more? Thanks!
