I may be able to point you in the right direction. I had a similar problem with one of my buttons that you're having with your joystick. Everything on the HotRod seems to work in on or off states (even the 8 ways on the joystick) thus the "clicks" and they are controlled by microswitches. I changed out the microswitch on the button in 5 minutes and now it works PERFECT! Check this out:

Now click "Mounting and Exploded Views"
BAM!!I think all you have to do is get one of those microswitches! Cheap as hell too! A button WITH a microswitch costs less than 2 dollars so I'd imagine the microswitch itself is....
