1 final thing on joystick dead zone.
Any 8-4 way design you make, you should try on QIX. If you rotate the joystick through a diagonal and you see/hear the fuse start, then you have too much dead zone.
If you are using a keyboard encoder, then the HotRod test program is usefull for viewing if you removed all traces of diagonal and the amount of dead zone (on screen stick will return to center).
