The circuit I designed "remembers" the last true direction you were going, so if you were going left then down-left diag, the circuit would output down whereas if you were going down, then down-left diag, the circuit would output left.
I have some logic chips on order from RadioShack and will report on the tests shortly.
I did some extensive investigation on that microcontroller you used, and it looks like a very cheap solution. Correct me if I am wrong, but it appears that a programmer can be had for $30, + $2-3 per each 1200?
I also read that the 1200 can be converted to a 1200A by flashing a bit BUT you must have the parallel programmer to be able to do so. The serial programmers cannot do this.
