I've read the trick is the ratio.

For example, you want to look at the mouse encoder wheel. The tabs are say 1:1 with the spaces then that would be 50/50. Mice with large tabs and smaller spaces might have a 75/25 ratio. You want your spinner encoder wheel to be the same in ratio.

: Well, I tested my mouse sensor and it's encoder wheel while attached to the arcade spinner, only to find out that it's not going to work well. The encoder wheel is so small and it's obviously designed to spin much faster than an arcade spinner (to get equivalent movement). You'd have to spin the spinner very much to get the motion desired. So it's either, gear it up to spin correctly (which is certainly a bad choice I'd think), or use a different spinner (which I don't want to do, possibly to only have the same results), or get a different encoder wheel; which is certainly what I'm going to try.

: I found on this web site, a link to a program that prints up encoder discs (please excuse me for forgetting the program's author) based on your input of size and number of spacers etc. The spinner I want to use has what looks to be an easily replaceable spinner disc in it, so I'll print up one with slots MUCH smaller, similar to the mouse I'd think, and see what kind of movement I get out ot that. I was thinking though...you'd have to print it out and then CUT out all of those slots! Who wants to do that, then I realized... DUH, you can print it on a transparency, that must be what it is intended to be used with, right?

: Any thoughts on suggested dimensions for the encoder disc? The disc needs to be no more than about 4 inches in diameter, with that in mind, what should I use for values of # of pegs and width of spaces?

: Thanks! and thanks for writing such a useful program!
