The diamond shape sounds more reasonable as this would allow you to do go directly to the 'up' from 'right' without going back to the centre.

Every control panel probably has a different sized hole but maybe there is a standard. The ability to only press one microswitch at a time would be different for each control panel too. They could make a Hotrod specific one I suppose.

Do you think metal must be used or would a strong rubber or plastic device work as well. I would prefer something that could be changed without a screwdriver. Super glue and matchsticks could work too! ;)

Where do we take this now? I want one! My scores on Logic Pro would improve dramatically.

: You could take a small square piece of metal and cut out a smaller square hole (rotated 45 degrees to resemble a "diamond") and then cut that piece in half and drill holes in the four corners and drill corresponding holes in the wood of the control panel and then drop in screws or carriage bolts to secure it.
