spinner hook-up

I've got a nice spinner I took from a Tron cocktail control panel, and I want to install it into my MAME machine control panel. I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to get the arcade spinner to rotate the wheel in the mouse and encoder. Then I started thinking...has anyone ever used the spinner's arcade encoder and wired it up to the mouse wires? Help going in either direction would be most appreciated!
