: Well one thing that would definitely kill the bounce back is: Don't let go of the stick!

: I have never heard of anyone who lets go of the stick all the time while playing the games.

Dont play Frogger much, do ya. :)
You tap/slap the stick in the direction you wish to travel. Thus ensuring only one hop in the desired direction.

Even Joust, you only apply pressure to the stick when you wish to move left or right. You dont think about having to recenter the stick. It just pops back into position. But with the HAPP sticks, you bird does a funny little dance.

: Actually tightening the spring would make the stick harder to move and would probably increase how fast the bounce back occurs.

But would the tighter spring be enough to recenter the stick without letting it travel so far as to hit the switch in the opposite direction?

:As far as bounce back, this is normal. When you compress a spring (such as when you move the joystick), it will try to go back to its normal shape. If you remove the spring that will kill all bounce back but you will have to move the joystick back to center manually.

Leaf switch sticks (like my TRON stick) do not have a problem with bounce-back. They have a large rubber grommet which recenters the stick rather than a spring.
