Help Sound works in dos mame but not threw ArcadeOS even with the sound set to 1

i'm having a little trouble with arcadeos. it runs genesis / nes and everything else fine with sound but when i run mame i can't get sound. i have edited the arcadeos.cfg to have 1 as the soundcard setup but i still get no sound. I ran mame with the soundcard set at 1 strait threw dos without the arcade os and i had great sound. Can anyone help?
