DOH!, you mean I programmed a microchip for nothing! Good thing I hooked it up with terminals for easy removal. But I will probably leave it in. It allows for different switch selectable modes.

Exclusive 4 way: Only allows the 4 main directions and sends all switches off when a diagonal is pressed.

Sticky 4-way: The diagonals stick to the main direction. Press Left then Left/up. Left is still output until full Up is reached. Then go from Up to Left and Up is still output.

: : I was thinking it would be nice to add P/TAB/ESC keys to my HotRodSE. But thought it might be a pain. So I deceided to take a peek in the cabinet anyway. (attn: HanaHo, I am a Canada wide certified Technician, so don't void my warranty. It says only to be opened by qualified technicians in the warranty. :-) )

: : Anyways. Low and behold, it is extremly easy to add these.

: : On the circuit board there are a bunch of connectors. 1 connector only has 2 wires in it. This connector does switches 25 - 32 per the silk screen on the board. Hmm.... I wonder. The sitches are active low, meaning you ground the contact to activate. So 25 & 26 are used. That leaves 27 - 32. Grounding these comes up with (including 25 & 26 for reference)

: : 25 - X
: : 26 - [
: : 27 - ESC
: : 28 - ENTER
: : 29 - TAB
: : 30 - F1
: : 31 - UNKNOWN (does not seem to do anything)
: : 32 - P

: : So all you have to do is add a switch to these lines on the connector with one side of the switch going to ground.

: : Have fun.

: : P.S. I found these out when I was modifing the joysticks to allow switch selectable 4-way mode and a special diagonal -to- 4 way mode so Q-bert operates properly on diagonals instead of the joystick being 45 degrees out as it is now. It seems Q-bert used a 4-way joystick mounted 45 degrees clockwise.

: : More info on this in a couple of weeks when I get photos.

: Nice tip about the HotRod.

: For Q-bert:
: Press Tab.
: Go into Input (For this game)
: set your controls in Mame to the following:
: Right=Right Down
: Left=Left Up
: Up=Up Right
: Down=Down Left

: you can do Right Down by hitting right then hitting down
