Well, after trying the brightness control to no avail, I decided to go for broke and resolder the pin connectors on the monitor pcb. I was a little discouraged when I didn't see anything visibly wrong with the joints, but I desoldered and resoldered all of them. I put the board back in, and fired it up. Nothing. Then I remembered I had fiddled with the brightness control earlier. One little twist, and I finally saw what I thought would never work. Thanks for the brightness tip. I might have fixed it and never known!

I do have a question though. What kind of problems can a cap kit fix. My monitor seems to have a fex issues:
Screen is higher in the left corner than the right
Small area at the top of the screen seems "smushed"
Some pincushioning at the sides

This monitor looks like it's from 1986, and all the solder joints look original, so it has 14-15 year old caps. Do you think they can fix the problems I described?
