I could be wildly wrong, but it also sounds like you might have the same key mapped twice somewhere. Fire up the lp24cfg program, and make sure that Ctrl for example isn't in there twice. I would then also fire up MAME and make sure that there aren't any keys mapped twice in there either. If that doesn't work, let us know!
