Sound not initializing... in AOS 2.44 ... anyone with the same problem?

I have dos sound drivers and everything (sb16pci) - but when I try to run a game it tells me that it cannot initialize the sound? I have changed the arcadeos.cfg to reflect that I have a sblaster as well as the config menu in AOS. - Should I just run an older AOS version?
