I am almost certain that you need to twist the grounds together and hook them to video ground. If your monitor is older and uses an isolation transformer the earth ground might harm your video card or monitor.
Please get a second opinion on this before going ahead with it...it has been a while since I put together a dos machine using an arcade monitor...
