I used 3M paint remover to remove the thick black paint off my Crystal Castles cabinet. The key is to let it sit for about 10-15 minutes and remove the resulting goo with a flat plastic scrapper. Then you need to clean up the remaining paint streaks with a coarse plastic fiber sponge or 3M green fiber. I opted for 3M paint remover because it is easy to apply, can act on vertical surfaces, doesn't produce toxic fumes and you can handle it with your bare hands if you have to. The con is that it still requires a lot of work to remove the paint.

On the subject of mame'ing old cabinets, I disagree with you if all you got is a gutted cab. Otherwise it would be a shame to waste a perfectly good classic.

: ok, so as per my previous post i think i have a Tempest cabinet, that was converted. It was painted gray on the sides. tonight i looked closely, there are a couples scratches in the gray paint and underneath is some blue and white paint, which i believe is the original tempest side art! So, what can I do to remove this lame gray paint without damaging the sideart underneath? Please tell me how and what to do! I would love to restore this game back to a Tempest machine!

: Yes, and I am bummed that that guy in an earlier post is making a mame cab out of a Tempest machine..what a bastard!

: UGH!
