I have an adapter called the "Smart Joy 2", which lets you use a PC keyboard as a controller, the numeric keypad is mapped to the analog stick, the arrows are mapped the digital pad. I used a PowerRamp and was able to program it for games that required the analog stick. Remapability is definately needed on the encoder/pad you're going to use, as certain games have wierd controls that wouldn't work on a Joystick setup, like having Y as forward, X as backward, analog stick left to turn left, and analog stick right to turn right... I mapped these to the joystick, and it works fine.
