One reason is people simply don't know... There is no info on vid cards in the FAQ.

In Reply to: Why are people still tellin' newbies to use ATI xpert type cards for Arcade monitors? [more] posted by Andy Geez on 21, 2001 at 11:05 AM:

: These cards where good when Brian Lewis first did ArcadeOS around 2 years ago, but seriously these cards are way behind for using on Arcade Monitors now, no native support for 16bit (Apart from 640x480 which only works on some ATI cards, depending on there memory/clock speeds, some experience multiple screens or worse).

: These cards only are supported via ModeX tweaked mode at 8bit colour, and lets face it most new MAME games use 16bit colour, without the picture looks awful. Also ModeX modes are a lot slower too.

: People should be buying a card that is natively supported in VsyncMAME or AdvancedMAME or MonARC Plus if they can't wait for VsyncMAME/AdvancedMAME to be released.

: Also noticed a lot more people are using Med Res monitor too..

: Here is a list of the cards that support 16bit colour, proper aspect ratio's for CPS2 games and also correct screen refresh rates like 55hz for RType and so on.

: Most supported/Recommended.

: *Matrox G400
: Trident Blade3D
: Sis6326 and other SIS cards
: **Voodoo Banshee/Voodoo 3/Voodoo 5500

: others not tested by me, so I don't know how they perform:
: ATI 128 series
: Certain S3 cards
: Certian Cirus Logic cards

: * Inaccurate clock timings.
: ** No Interlace support (only effects Medium Resolution/Vector games, You can't run Medium Resolution games on a Standard Res monitor properly anyway, so use Medium Resolution monitor if you have a dual support monitor :)).

: I hope this helps some people out..
