: to the earlier post, it is possible and very easy to hack a psx controller....i bought a cheap 3rd party digital controller at walmart for five bucks and it worked great....the only prob is that some ps2 games won't work w/o an analog controller hooked up even though you can play just using the d pad....i bought a dual shock mad catz controller and hacked that to a happs ultimate joystick and arcade buttons...i didnt even touch the analog sticks or rumble motors....it works like a charm on all my ps2 games now.....the site that helped me i found here at arcade controls about the guy who hacked a psx controller and put the directions on his site..he called it the frankenstick so i gotta give him props for that site.
Yes I just did this too over the weekend. The problem is this. The joystick was designed as an SNES joystick (yes it had HAPP buttons and a HAPP joystick , not sure which one). I really wanted to get it to work with my PSX as well as my SNES. Unfortunatly I found that It can only work one way or the other. The interfaces seem to conflict with one another. So I rewired it to work with the PSX since I was excited to play Raiden ][ with the HAPP controls. Is it possible to wire in more then one interface? If so I'd be SOOOO happy. I'd use the original SNES interface and I would also create a Saturn one.
If its not possible I'll just build a new one from scratch. The SNES HAPP controler cost me $75.00 when I bought it in 1993. It seems its much cheeper to build one from scrathc. ~30.00 worth of raw HAPP controls, some wood, a cheep joypad (PC, or game system), a litle bit of martha stewart (for decorating the joystick of course), and lots of time. I'f I build a new one it will be for the PC probably if not the PSX2 if that thing ever comes down to a reasionable price (eventually).
