My thoughts were like this: The mouse buttons are only used if i navigate in windows, so its only one person using these not two at the same time, one person is left handed or right handed and so the buttons are needed twice, i like to use the trackball with one hand and the buttons with the other hand, i don't like to use my thumb of the same hand controlling the trackball, so i looked fo the best position for the buttuns not to be in the way if i use the other controls during a game.
I hope my english is not too bad, i'm german i must confess.... :-)
