Has anyone had any luck hacking PSX controllers?

A friend and I are planning to make our own arcade style joysticks, mainly for fighting games, and we are planning to hack playstation joysticks to do it. This will let us use it for the PSX, PC, and Dreamcast. We were wondering if this was easily do-able, and if you had any tips. If I try anything in the mean time, I'll report back, and let you all know.
