My space invaders cab which i'm using for a MAME cab uses this set up. It has a semi-silvered piece of glass at a 45 degree angle and the monitor lies flat below. They have a UV light at the back and a painted plexi glass moon and painted backdrop behind that which you can see through the glass, it sort of gives a 3D effect and actually looks quite good.

If you mounted your monitor the same as this one is, you can look down and see the monitor as well as the reflected image....oops just realised that wouldnt help because I think it would still be upside down.

I'm sure you could get a utility, or get someone to write one that does what you need outside of mame. I can remember there was some joke extensions I had on the Mac that you would put in someones extension folder and it would make everything go upside down and stuff like that, so it must be do-able, probably even easier on a PC too.

I think its a great idea for doing a rotating monitor easily, i'll be interested to see what comes of it :)

good luck
