I had thought about contact paper for my control, and had actually bought some black marble which still looks pretty cool. But finally I found exactly what I was looking for - Happ sells self-adhesive textured vinyl in big wide rolls. I never did see it on their site, but they do carry it. It's the stuff you'd cover your coffee or pop machine if you'd so desire - at least that's what they sell it for. Anyhow, it's pretty much exactly the same stuff I used to see on many an arcade cabinet. Seems pretty durable so far too.
