is there any way to trick a PS digital pad to simulate an anlog controller (so PS2 games can start?)

So the only way to connect a PS controller to a PS2 (and have it recognize analog support) is to hack a 3rd party controller that uses digital buttons? Does anyone know of a circuit or hack to make an old PS controller recognized as an analog?
