in Mame:
P1 Left/Up to Up on the Left stick
P1 Left/Down to down on the left stick
P1 Right/up to up on the right stick
P1 Right/Down to Down on the right stick
P1 Button3 to the fire button on the right stick
If you don't have a fire button on the right stick map it to an easy to hit button near your right hand.
