I'm doing this from work, so don't have the time to
check just now, but if memory serves - Happ Controls
has an interface for their spinners to hook to a
serial port I *think*. I could be mis-remembering
a trackball interface. Big bucks, but I wonder if
you could find out how they did it and hack out a
workaround.

Actually, this sounds like a job for Stephan! You
listening my friend? :)

You're crusing uncharted waters with this one I
think Brian, but if you get it resolved, I imagine
many people would be interested.

: : If you describe the spinners a little better, I could probably help you come up with something.

: It's simple really. Just a spinner knob connected to a 10k ohms potentiometer. The pot has two leads coming off of it. And it's a free spinning pot; no stops.

: : If the spinner is just mounted directly to a potentiometer, then it wouldn't work to just attach it to a mouse wheel.

: This is why I'm looking to build some sort of a circuit, rather than attempt to attach it to a mouse.

: : You would definitely need to gear down the spin in order to get it to act like a real spinner (I could give you sizez of gears, etc, if you need them.)

: : The way I look at it, your best bet is to try attaching the spinner to a horizontal mouse wheel inside a mouse (Tear a cheap one apart) and mount the board in a way that the wheel can still go through the sensors.
: : If this ends up being acceptable, let me know, but my gut tells me that a direct spin on that mouse wheel would make it move too fast (Unless you have a mouse that have drivers which allow you to turn down the sensitivity).

: Hmmm... if I don't come up with something, I guess I have no choice but to try this. I wanted to avoid having to remove the pot and try something a bit different than a mouse hack. Oh well........
