Pole Position Gas Pedal Hack

Has anyone done a gas pedal hack. I have the opportunity to purchase a Pole Position gas pedal but I'm not sure how to connect it or how it worked on the original game. I've already built a USB mouse hack for an old Wico Command Controller (Atari 2600 version) but I haven't seen any sites mentioning gas pedals.
