4 trackballs with PC/MAME?

Folks,

Has anyone figured out how to interface 4 trackballs to a PC for MAME?

About to start in on my MAME cabinet (finally) but would really like to play Rampart (3p trackball version) and Atari Football (4p trackball version) as intended.

The EPIC (see link below) is the closest I've seen (with the added advantage of being able to interface in multiple analog devices for driving games) but it is hugely pricey.
