I run pure DOS because:

* Plain vanilla MAME is built for pure DOS (and I want top performance, powerful system or not).
* Pure DOS is really easy to debug and trace for errors (I is quite easy to mess up Windows).
* Pure DOS can be very small (smaller than one mb and still as useful as Windows).
* Pure DOS boots quicker than most other OS (and I want my cab up and running as quick as possible).
* I have spent many years hacking DOS so the UI (or lack of it) is not a problem...

I am not saying that DOS is a superior OS. I know it's limitations but also it's strength. But I must say that it excels running MAME in my cab.

: I'm curious why some of you prefer to run your arcade PCs in True Dos. With the powerful systems (that I'm assuming) we all use, it surely can't be for speed/framerate gains. It seems like a lot of trouble to go through... for what? And why use actual DOS instead of windows9x's "true Dos"?

: No offense is intended here. I'm just curious.

: Thanks.
