You can also buy DB25 cable ends, and the pins that go in the ends. Solder/crimp the pins to
some 22 gauge wire, stick the pins in the DB25
ends. this allows you to, for example,
always make joystick up go to pin 1, joy down to
pin 2, etc.

Quite a bit more work, but it's also more flexible.
