I made a control panel today using a sidewinder hack. It was extremely easy. The how to on this site does have a couple of mistakes though.

1. On the how to the guy soldered directly to the directional pads. This is not needed. There are solder points for the D pad underneath a group of colored wires in the middle of the PCB.


2. I don't think the how to was very clear on how easy this is. There is nothing to unsolder. Every button has a labled hole ready to stick a wire in and solder.
The whole thing took me about 20 minutes. Compared to the 2 hours it took me to wire up a keyboard hack.


3. You do not need to solder up 5 grounds. Just one works fines.


It is actually possible to do this and have the controller still functional with a second wire coming out of the back for the arcade controls.
