The extra two "buttons" are actually the analogue axis for the second joystick.

See way back when the PC joystick spec was hammered out (IBM XT) it was decided that two joysticks with two buttons per joystick should be more than anyone would ever need so that's what we got.

you will need to do some trickery to convert your digital button signal into an analogue reading like the PC expects but with win95/98 it shouldn't be too hard. Only problem is that you can only have one of these joysticks working on the machine at a time as it uses ALL the avilible joystick data lines
