: Anyone here running MAME on a TV? How is the picture quality compared to a computer monitor?.......arcade monitor?

Hi Andy,

How are ya? :)

I've had simultaneous displays running on the following:

1) TV via good quality Averkey scan converter
2) WG u3100 (arcade style VGA compatible)
3) PC monitor

Basically it breaks down like this:

TV - Pro: brightest, most vivid colors. Con: color bleeding makes some games look really crappy, limited to basic scan rates.

u3100 - Pro: looks like a '90s arcade display, nice and smooth and no color bleeding, plus does a nice range of scan rates. Con: no complaints really

PC Monitor - Pro: excellent scan range. Con: too sharp for large pixel games - must use scanlines to help, also tends to be somewhat darker than other displays.

While I haven't used my PC on a standard arcade monitor, my educated guess is you'd have a very bright, vivid display like a TV with no color bleeding, but also a limited scan range.

My conclusion - I highly recommend the VGA compatible arcade style displays like the u3100, D9200 and others from various companies. The prices are reasonable IMO and you get lotsa flexibility and ease of use, with a good arcade style look to the picture. Other solutions will be cheaper but also more problematic.

: How much does a top of the line video card for this run with s-video output?
