First off, please keep in mind the application of my fixed frequency monitor. I am using it in a cocktail mode, oriented vertically. I assume no responsibility if you are not satisfied with a fixed frequency monitor. Having said that.....

My fixed frequency monitor is a 20" Intergraph. Here are the specs:
Horizontal scan rate: 31.5 OR 82KHz
Vertical scan rate: 60-154Hz

I use the monitor in my cocktail cabinet and it is in a vertical orientation. Since it does support 640x480, I can boot the computer into DOS with no problem. I can even run Windows in that mode (really BIG icons!). However, I have not found a way to get any better resolution in windows and I think that is mainly due to my antiquated video card (Intense 3D 100).

As for MAME, there are a couple of games that do not display at all as the picture is completely scrambled. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is 1941. That's not a big loss in my mind, as I prefer 1943 anyways. I have run PacMan, Galaga, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong (Jr), Mr. Do, and others on my machine with no problems at all. Most games take up almost the whole screen, but Mr. Do seems to have the smallest image of the bunch. I'd say that there is probably a 2 inch border on the top and bottom of the screen for that particular game.

I plan to get a Trident Blade 3D (PCI) card soon to see if AdvanceMAME will help that problem and the 1941 problem as well. I have a feeling it will.

I posted a message on this board a little while back asking about fixed frequency monitors and AdvanceMAME. Prophet wrote an encouraging response back, and that alone convinced me to go get a video card that is supported by AdvanceMAME. I really feel like it is my video card that is the bottleneck in terms of what games I can run.

I do no manual "mode-switching" or anything of that nature to get MAME to run.

If you have any other questions, or would like me to try a game for you, please feel free to send an email or post here.

Matt
