MAME and arcade monitor problem, any ideas????

Hi...

I'm working on a MAME project with a Wells 19" monitor, and am having a small problem...

I have wired up my VGA card to the board, and have the following problems...

Boot to DOS, the right side and left side of the screen are flipped, and have a slow scroll on them... Nothing seems to get the 2 sides where they should be... (I can see the dos prompt, and can read what I type)

Launch MAME with -monitor arcade switch = NOTHING... screen is black
Launch MAME with -monitor ntsc switch = 4 copies of the same screen next to each other, and they contain ~75% of the screen. for example, launching ms pacman, you see 4 mazes on the screen, and you watch the demo... no color loss, so it's not like each of the guns firing at a different place on the screen. Just 4 mazes.

Any ideas what to try/do?
