If you want that many inputs (4 joysticks and 20 buttons) you may need to look at something a little more exotic.

A keyboard encoder would offer the number if inputs you want if you use it in matrix mode but there would be some ghost/jamming problems.

The only way I can think of getting that much information into a PC is through the paralell port, something like this multi playstation addaptor should do the trick

But it has plenty of problems too. First off you need to hack 4 playstation pads to arcade controls, then build the "megatap interface". And it will only work with games that support a speical version of Dpadpro designed to work with the megatap.

Hmmm, will have to think about this some more.
