I use small wood screws they are about 1/4 inch long to secure terminal blocks to the wood. If the screws you get are to long you could use some sort of spacer or small washers to make the screws just catch the wood, that would work out fine. As for the rubber I have never heard of anyone using it and don't think it would benefit you at all.
