The term "Fighter" as applied to arcade games could arguably describe either:

- Head-to-head competitive fighters (Street Fighter series, King of Fighters series, Mortal Kombat series etc.), or
- Co-operative scrolling Beat-Em-Ups (Bad Dudes, TMNT, Double Dragon 1 & 2, Golden Axe, Growl, Ninja Gaiden, Rampage, The Simpsons, Vendetta etc.).
