Oh definitely there are games that set the standards in the arcade industry. Even to this day most other games are simply remakes of these same formulas. My "classics" would be these:

Maze Chase: Pacman
Platform: Donkey Kong
Driving: Pole Position
Wrestling: Mat Mania
Beat-em-up: Double Dragon
Fighting: Street Fighter 2
1st person Shooter: Discs of Tron

They may not be the "first" of their kind, but they were the most fun to play.

: Which games do you consider classics. By classic I mean games that should be in every rom collection because they are an essential part of the history of the videogames, since they are games that are among the first in its genre (in fact they can be considered as creators of genres), such as shoot'em up, beat'em up, platform games, etc. For intance: vertical shooter: space invaders, galaga... horizontal shooters: defender, nemesis, and so on with every arcade genre...
