You seem to be confusing things... What is commonly referred to as a "rotary joystick" has a rotational capability in *addition* to having an X and Y axis of movement.
What you are referring to as "turning" of the T2 gun is just the right/left axis of movement. The gun also moves up/down. So it really is just a two axis analog stick with a shakin' gun on top of it...
