The rotating 4 way joystick has been done.
It was by that other company (Not Hannaho) that makes Arcade control panels for PCs. (I can't think of the companies name, but I do remember people warning me against dealing with them).
It really shouldn't be hard to reproduce.
There are a few ways to do it that I can think of. Although all of the ways that look good would require opening up the panel.
